“It Was Love” is about reminiscing about a teenage crush. It is the second promotional single released from LANY’s debut self-titled album and was released on April 7th, 2017. The release date was announced on Twitter on April 3rd.

In a Buzzfeed interview, Paul inadvertently revealed that the song was written about a girl named Lauren Morris. While telling the story of his first kiss, which was with her, he mentions that he had “known her since second grade,” coinciding directly with the song’s second line.
