Calvin Cambridge is a tribute from DaBoii to the rest of SOB x RBE, and a self-conscious reflection of where he is in the world. In an interview with The Fader, SOB member Slimmy B explains how the group is not a gang but family. DaBoii explains a similar concept with lyrics like:

S-O-B the gang, y'all ain’t fuckin wit my crew nigga
Day ones only, I don’t really fuck wit' new niggas

and

Circle got small, I don’t really like to trust niggas

This feeling is further reflected in the chorus which talks about SOB “gangin'” together.

DaBoii also tells of what life is like living in Vallejo from gang banging to wearing high-end clothes. “Calvin Cambridge” and SOB’s other hit song “Anti” both helped the group gain popularity outside the Bay Area and ultimately lead to the recording of their self-titled album.
