“Sun” is the first song that Sigrid wrote, as well as the first song she released, in 2013 with Petroleum Records. It was her national debut in Norway.

It was written after her brother, Tellef, set her a two week deadline to write an original song to sing with him at his next gig.

It is an acoustic song with no backing vocals and is categorised under the singer-songwriter genre. On growing older, Sigrid found her earlier work, including this song, cringey.

Like most of Sigrid’s music, “Sun” is a song about feeling isolated. She talks about missing a person, which could refer to her sister Johanna, who had recently moved to Spain. The song discusses her desire for someone else to fill a hole in her heart to make her feel complete again. Pathetic fallacy is used throughout the track, comparing the lack of sun to a lack of happiness.

In an interview with Amazon Music, Sigrid said that the song was about “not getting into a boarding school that I really wanted to go to”
