Hoe Cakes

Hoe Cakes

MF DOOM

The second track off the MM…FOOD album makes use of some pretty sick beatboxing throughout.

“Hoe Cakes” (spelled “hoecakes”) is an African American food from the 19th century. Blacks prepared a pancake like food on field hoes. Ingredients were simple: cornmeal, water, and salt. The song talks in detail about the act of pimping women (or “hoes”) out for prostitution and the way that the girls MF DOOM pimp out do what he asks them as a result to their attachment and affection for him.

Samples “Supersonic” by J.J. Fad and “Sweet Love” by Anita Baker.
