Praying

Kesha

Kesha returns with “Praying,” her first solo release in over four years since “Crazy Kids” was released as a single from her 2012 album Warrior.

“Praying” is a power ballad clearly directed at her long legal battle with producer Dr. Luke. During that time, Kesha was barred from releasing new music (though Luke’s lawyers state differently), but she was able to link up with Zedd in 2016 to record a new version of his song “True Colors,” where she sang lyrics that happened to relate to her very situation with Dr. Luke:

And no-n-no, I won’t apologize for the fire in my eyes
Let me show you my, my true colors, it ain’t your rainbow

On the day this song dropped, Kesha spoke to Lenny Letter chronicling the creation of the song. While announcing the release of the single on Twitter, she gave a special dedication to her fans:

Your support and love and kindness has gotten me through hands down the hardest time of my entire life"

On November 28th, 2017, “Praying” received a nomination in the Best Pop Solo Performance category for the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.
