The song originated from a breakup Mahalia had with a guy. After breaking up with him, she repeatedly drunk dialed him after a night of partying. One night she decided to not call him and write a song instead. This song is the result of that night.

Mahalia writes the song from the perspective of sobering up the next morning. With her sober thoughts she realizes that there’s no relationship that will result from their relationship though she thought the couple had something.
