On “Over,” Drake raps about his introduction to fame and how his career is just only beginning. It was released as the first single from Drake’s debut album, Thank Me Later. In an April 2010 interview with MTV News, Drake gave his thoughts on the song:

‘Over’ is a great alter-ego moment. It’s the dark side of things and I really wanted that to come out first.

“Shut It Down,” the eighth track from Thank Me Later, was initally chosen as the first single according to Billboard but Drake later chose “Over.”
