Clan in da Front

Wu-Tang Clan

“Clan in Da Front” is the third track off of Wu-Tang Clan’s debut album, Enter the Wu-Tang. Primarily handled by GZA, who raps over a soulful jazz-loop done by producer RZA, this is the only record to not feature multiple Wu-Tang rappers, alongside “Method Man.” The track contains a sample of The New Birth’s “Honeybee” and Thelonious Monk’s “Ba-Lue Bolivar Ba-Lues-Are.”

In an interview with Brian Coleman, GZA explained that the song came together because no one wanted to rap after him:

I go first on there. The guys would be like ‘We can’t go after GZA, he’s got to close it.’ I got kind of tired of hearing that shit! And with eight or nine people on a song, if you go last, you’re gonna get cut on the video or the mix show. So I told them we gotta switch it up on this track, I’m going first.
