This song is called “Mumbo Jumbo” because there actually aren’t official lyrics. Tierra explains in a Pigeons and Planes interview: “When I’m recording, I usually just mumble and hum a melody and then fill the words in as I go. This time I just decided not to.”

She also mentions she went to the dentist the same week she recorded this song, which inspired the video. This might relate to the lyrics as well, because after you get a tooth pulled, this is basically what you sound like. She uses similar imagery in the video for “Bug’s Life” on “Whack World,” in which her face is swollen as if she just had a tooth pulled.

Thanks to this single, Tierra received a nomination for Best Music Video for the 2019 Grammy Awards, eventually being beaten by Childish Gambino’s “This Is America”.
