Greatest Love of All

Greatest Love of All

Whitney Houston

“Greatest Love of All” was written by Michael Masser & the late Linda Creed, who wrote the song during her struggle with breast cancer.

The song was originally in 1977 by George Benson for the Muhammad Ali biopic “The Greatest.”

Whitney covered the song for her 1985 self-titled debut album.

Originally, Clive Davis didn’t want Whitney to record the song for the album, but eventually gave in after being persuaded by Michael Masser and Whitney.

The song became a hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100, Hot Black Singles and adult contemporary charts in 1986. The song also topped the charts in Australia and Canada.

It was certified Gold in the U.S. and Canada & certified Silver in the U.K.

“Greatest Love of All” won the American Music Award for “Favorite Soul/R&B Video.” It was also nominated for a Grammy Award for “Record of the Year” and a Soul Train Music Award for “Single of the Year.”
