“La Modelo” es una colaboración artística entre el reggaetonero puertorriqueño Ozuna y la rapera Cardi B. Una canción influenciada por los ritmos dancehall que promete ser un hit desde su anuncio y que destaca al 2017 como uno de los años con más canciones bilingües.

En su entrevista a la revista Billboard, El Negrito De Ojos Claros habló de que esta colaboración con Cardi surgió después de que se conocieron el año pasado durante uno de sus shows en el club La Boom, en New York.

Desde ese entonces surgió una conexión entre ambos artistas debido a que sus gustos musicales congeniaron. En palabras de Ozuna, “pensé, ‘Wow, ella es tan grande y le gusta mi música.’”

Meses más tarde, mientras viajaba por Filadelfia, Ozuna estaba trabajando en una nueva canción y pensó que Cardi B sería la perfecta. No la había visto desde aquel encuentro de Nueva York ni habían intercambiado correos electrónicos. “Le envié un mensaje personal en Instagram y ella respondió”. Después de que él envió la canción, la respuesta fue sí, y Cardi escribió sus propias partes en inglés.

He hecho muchas colaboraciones, pero la mayoría de las veces, soy yo el que sigue a alguien más", dice Ozuna. “Nunca había traído a alguien como Cardi B a mi propia música. Cuando escuches, dirás: ‘Guau, esa mujer es increíble, en inglés y en español. Eso para mí es el verdadero dueto: una gran artista que canta en español.

“La Modelo” is an artistic collaboration between Puerto Rican reggaeton artist Ozuna and rapper Cardi B. The song is influenced by dancehall rhythms that promised to be a hit since its announcement and that highlights 2017 as one of the years with the most bilingual songs.

In his interview with Billboard, El Negrito De Ojos Claros (one of Ozuna’s nicknames), said that this collaboration with Cardi came about after they met last year during one of their shows at La Boom, a New York club.

Since then a connection between both artists arose because their musical tastes were similar. In Ozuna’s words, “I thought, ‘Wow, she’s so popular and she’s into my music.’”

Months later while on the road in Philadelphia, Ozuna was working on a new song and thought Cardi B would be the perfect for it. He hadn’t seen her since that New York show nor had they exchanged emails. “I sent her a personal message on Instagram and she wrote back,” he says. After he sent the song, the answer was yes, and Cardi wrote her own English parts.

I’ve done a lot of collabs, but most of the time, it’s me on someone else’s track,” says Ozuna. “I’d never brought someone like Cardi B into my own music. When you hear, you’ll say: ‘Wow, that woman is amazing, in English and in Spanish. That to me is the real crossover: a mainstream artist singing in Spanish.
