A cover of the song originally performed by America, “A Horse with No Name” is quite fitting for Bojack Horseman since its main character is a horse. Picking up from where viewers last saw Bojack, left in the desert at the end of season 3, this song plays as the audience sees Bojack make his way, alone, on a journey across the United States at the beginning of season 4.

Besides the immediate horse connection, this song also plays at a time when Bojack, for once in his life as a celebrity, is a horse with no name – he’s just another horse. YouTube user DairyBoyComics was also keen to point out that on his old TV show, which catapulted him to fame, he was only known as “The Horse” – aka, a Horse with no name.

Michelle Branch, perhaps best known for her song “Everywhere”, sings vocals on this track, while Patrick Carney (one half of The Black Keys), plays guitar. Carney also composed the show’s theme music.
