Track 12 off of Oddisee’s “Tangible Dream”

This track features Toine, and Trek Life. On this track all three rappers tell stories about their life, and position in Hip-Hop. All three artist go real deep with their story telling. Letting their listeners in on how they truly feel about themselves, and their music career.

Toine, one half of the rap duo DTMD with fellow rapper Dunc. Starts out by asking how did he get where he is today. Points out how O(ddisee) was there to help him. Telling him there is another seat in the ride he was taking to success. He then goes on to tell how he feels on his position. Stating that he is getting older, and time is short. The position he is in, isn’t where he dreamed he would be. Including how while he is on stage everyone applauses, and chants his name screaming “Toine Go!” Yet, back home he is still nothing more than an average man(John Doe) that lives in upper Marlboro. He then goes on to end the verse with showing that if he isn’t living a bomb life, he could care less about someone’s conversation about their Top 5 rappers. He is still going to keep it real, and represent the people who has his back in this game.

Oddisee, part of Washington’s very own Diamond District comes in on the second verse. Pointing out something his fans have heard, and said multiple times. How they feel Oddisee is highly underrated in Hip-hop, and should be listed as one of the greatest. On the top fives, number ones, etc. Along with pretty much all the things Oddisee tends to say he could care less about. After this, he states how he put himself in the same box as the greatest, and that he is performing with people favorite artists. He is just evading all the shine. He then goes on to basically say, he is fine with his position in Hip-Hop. He would rather continue making passionate music versus being like most people’s “Top 5” rappers who only make music to get reactions, and things that only last temporarily. He ends the verse saying that he would much more enjoy chilling at home with his girl. Knowing that he has somewhere to stay, with plenty of meals. Instead of being on BET, accepting gold trophies, and being at VIP parties. Which in his mind, means nothing to him. Reassuring his listeners understand that he is perfectly fine with the life he is living, and the success that he already has as an artist.

Trek Life, another fellow member of Mellow Music Group has the last verse on this track. The instrumentation goes without the drums, and ironically feels like a outro on this outro track. He starts out by speaking to his listeners. Stating that he gave them the best of him, and when it wasn’t enough, he gave them everything of himself. Feeling that as long as he used his talent, and hard work. He would eventually get the shine he wanted. Yet, it never happened. Going on to list things he did to try, and make it happen. Then saying that he should have probably took a different route, and tried to become a Doctor, or a Lawyer. He then shows how frustrated he had become with what was happening with his music career. Stating that he would get angry with how much his album would be ignored. Asking “Why the fuck yall keep passing up me in line?” He ends the verse saying its fine, and he is done trying to get in the limelight. He will shine from the sideline. Thinking that maybe it wasn’t meant for him to be up next, and his real mission was just to set up the stage for whoever is next up to shine. Lastly saying, “So I’m cool man, I mean- I guess I’m cool man” Showing that despite him accepting the position that he is in. He still wishes things would have went like he wanted them to.
