As the title implies, “Black Mask” denotes a reference to the disguise used by DC Comics hero, Batman.

Prior to this release, a partnership between Don Diablo and Warner Bros took place to promote the release of the latter’s game, “Batman: Arkham Origins”. Warner asked the producer to make the themesong for the game, and he took the opportunity to show a darker side of himself, as he noted in a conversation with electronic music blog Complex.

As possible contenders for the soundtrack, he wrote Origins (that got chosen as the official title song) and “Black Mask”. The success of these themed releases allowed him to create a more visual and conceptual look and feel around the releases – In the following months, Don would be concluding the Batman trilogy with his single “Knight Time”, and, at the same time, beginning a trilogy of releases centered around the “Time” theme, with “AnyTime” and “Back in Time”.
