“1000 Knives” is a self-cover of Sakamoto’s song from his first album “Thousand Knives.” Touting a drier arrangement, Sakamoto recreates the moody guitar solos with a keyboard, making use of the Prophet-5’s polyphonic to monophonic switching. Sakamoto recorded it for the album in response to Hosono’s request to “make a song like Thousand Knives.” The sound at the end is the result of a programming error by Hideke Matsutake.
