Lake Street Dive released “Good Kisser” as the lead single off their 2018 record, Free Yourself Up. The song is a message from a woman to her significant other who has left her.

Songs to a prior paramour are a common theme in Lake Street Dive’s music, appearing in songs like “I Don’t Care About You”, “So Long”, and “I Don’t Really See You Anymore”. The theme even appears in their covers, as in “I Want You Back”, a Jackson 5 cover.

She asks him to paint her in a good light, telling everyone that “[she’s] a good kisser,” even as she tells him to tell them that he broke her heart. She asks him to tell the good as well as the bad of their relationship.
