“Fall In Line” is an empowering ballad about the right for women to decide on their own body and to have the mind and strength to pursue their dreams and not fall into society’s “expectations”.

The track is the second single that preceeds Christina Aguilera’s eighth studio album, Liberation and fits perfectly with the ideology of the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment and assault, although it was written way before the movement was publicized by the media. Both artists, however, have been very vocal about their struggles as female artists in the music industry over the past few years, with Demi Lovato criticizing TIME Magazine for portraying #MeToo women next to the accused president Trump in December 2017, and supporting Kesha during her battle against rape in the music industry in 2016.

The two performed the song live for the first time at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards, which aired on May 20.

The music video was released a week after the official release, on May 23, 2018. In the music video, Aguilera and Lovato are trying to escape from the constant pressure and control of the media and cameras, to eventually break out.
