A Long Walk

A Long Walk

Jill Scott

“A Long Walk” is the third single from Jill Scott’s first solo album, Who Is Jill Scott?. Released August 29, 2000, the song reached #9 on the Billboard R&B charts and has become a staple in Scott’s live concerts, with its recognizable opening line “You’re here, I’m pleased, I really dig your company.”

The lyrics describe a cerebral train of conversation about reparations, scriptures and other topics, while quietly developing a romantic relationship.

The easy swinging midtempo song, representative of early 2000s neo-soul was also sampled into Disclosure’s “Stimulation” in 2013.
