“Stay” was the fourth song to be debuted from Post Malone’s sophomore album, beerbongs & bentleys. The song features a much slower tempo than the three previous singles, marking the first song that has “push[ed] the genre” on his sophomore album.

The song is about Post’s struggle to maintain a relationship with a girl. It’s possible Post wrote this song during the short time that he and his girlfriend, Ashlen, had separated.

The song was performed live as part of the Bud Light Dive Bar Tour in Nashville, Tennessee, before an exclusive preview was released by Yahoo!.

Genius also released a “Deconstructed” of Stay with it’s co-producer watt.
