On May 30, two days before the release of Kanye’s eighth studio album, his wife Kim Kardashian-West met with President Donald Trump to discuss prison reform. She specifically talked about the case of Alice Marie Johnson, a great-grandmother serving a life sentence without parole for her first time offence in 1996.

This meeting came in the wake of controversy surrounding Kanye’s close ties with the President, exemplified by his wearing the MAGA hat, and infamous “Dragon Energy” tweets.
