“I Wish I Missed My Ex” is the second song off of Mahalia’s debut album Love and Compromise.

It was the first song she wrote for the album and it was put out in May, 2018, almost a year and a half before the album was released. It was, therefore, the first song that was written for the album, having been written in early 2018.

An accompanying music video was released the day after the song’s release. The entire video was filmed in-reverse, requiring Mahalia to learn how to sing the song backwards. The beginning of the video also features an intro not heard in the final released version:

The song has become Mahalia’s most well-known song, garnering 35 million streams on Spotify as of the end of 2019.
