Ariana Grande

“pete davidson,” the fourteenth track from Ariana Grande’s fourth album, Sweetener, is personally dedicated to her ex-fiancé Pete Davidson to whom Ariana became engaged in June 2018. The song title was confirmed via Twitter.

In the track, Ariana explores the happiness and content she feels with the Saturday Night Live star. It follows her breakup from rapper Mac Miller in May 2018- they were a public couple for nearly two years and split because Ariana perceived their relationship to be toxic.

On July 18, 2018, Ariana tweeted out a series of lyrics, followed by a wedding ring emoji, leading fans to believe them to be excerpts from “pete.”

On July 28, 2018 the song title was changed from “pete” to “pete davidson.” Later, Ariana explained her reasoning for the change via Twitter.

Ariana wrote this song a week after they started hanging out, as she had told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show:

Unfortunately, because of Ariana’s personal struggles, she and Pete called off their engagement and broke up on October 14, 2018.
