“Catch” showcases Allie X’s knack for medicinal terminology in reflection of a dangerous and painful relationship. It contains electronic elements, comparable to Scottish electronic band CHVRCHES, with a theme of vengeance.

Allie told Radio that she didn’t think “Catch” would work as a pop song—it took nearly two years to complete the final studio version. She also mentioned that “the pill” represents addiction:

What I’ve learned and what I’m hoping to do with my project is to use ‘X’ to erase the writing on the wall and not succumb to addiction. As is very easy to do when you have an extreme personality like I do.

“Catch” generated praise from popular celebrities like Katy Perry and Tyler Oakley.

“Catch” was released in In February 2014 as the first track by Allie Hughes under the name Allie X on Youtube and Soundcloud.

The music video was released in January 2015, featuring a cryptic lyric “on the wall” from an unreleased song, “Sculpture.”
