On “STOP TRYING TO BE GOD,” Travis cautions rappers to not develop a God complex and to remain true to their roots. The song features Kid Cudi’s signature hums, vocals from Philip Bailey and James Blake, and a harmonica performance by Stevie Wonder.

This was the first song to be conceptualized for the album and also the one that took the longest to complete—it was a year in the making and recorded across multiple studio sessions.

Travis teased the collaboration between him and Stevie Wonder on his Instagram and expressed in a 2018 interview with Billboard that one of his goals for the album was to get a feature from Stevie Wonder:

My next album is going to have Stevie [Wonder]. Well, I’m trying. We’re talking.

The music video, which came out on August 7th, 2018, was directed by Dave Meyers and loaded with Biblical imagery, tying in with the song’s underlying concept.
