A day after requesting beats, J. Cole dropped “Album of the Year,” a boastful freestyle over the instrumental from Nas’ 2001 track, “Oochie Wally.” The track serves as Cole’s first leading musical offering since his April 2018 album, KOD.

The song was released less than two days before the beginning of J. Cole’s KOD Tour.

“Album of the Year” was the announcement of and a promotional single for The Off-Season, Cole’s sixth studio album.
