This was the first song on the first album Alice in Chains released after frontman Layne Staley’s death from heroin overdose in 2002. Right out of the gate, the band is basically responding to the thoughts that fans and critics were having at the time. That is, how could Alice in Chains possibly make new music worth listening to without the iconic and inimitable voice of Layne Staley?

The band lays it all out on the table here, acknowledging the hardship of finally moving on while also recognizing they will never be quite the same going forward.
