“Normal” expresses Em’s desire to be in a regular relationship, as opposed to the hazardous fictional relationships he has described on songs such as “Love the Way You Lie”, “Tragic Endings”, “Love Game” and “Revenge.”

Em also wants a different relationship than his well documented experience with dating Kim, for instance through “Kim” and “Love You More.” He apologized for slandering her in his songs and making their struggles public on “Bad Husband” from Revival.
