“Penny Lane” is Christina’s first release under the name Christina Castle.

Discussing the origin of the song on her Instagram, Christina wrote: “it’s been 7 years of hard work, figuring a LOT out, making mistakes, being broken, but coming back stronger and better than ever each time. I always feel vulnerable listening to this song around other people as a day doesn’t go by where Penny Lane doesn’t still live very much inside me. it was one of the toughest periods as most of you from Australia knew me from TV when I was 16 & unstoppable. well when I was 18, I was dropped from my first major label deal, I had dropped out of school when I was 14 (when I’d been signed) so I had no education, no money and no hope. I started playing in bars to survive, trying to figure out my next move. it was just me and my keyboard in mostly empty dive bars around Sydney. I bought a blonde wig so that no one would ever recognize me.. and I called myself Penny Lane because I didn’t care at that point. I had been told by a million people to change my name when I was signed, and by the end of it all, I didn’t care what you called me… call me anything. I just wanted my music and voice to be heard. playing those gigs gave me faith in my talents and belief in myself as an artist & a performer so I said “fuck it im out!” I saved up all my money from those gigs and bought a one way ticket to America.”
