Pull Me Under

Pull Me Under

Dream Theater

The opening track and lead single to Dream Theater’s 1992 album Images and Words, “Pull Me Under” is the first official release with the band’s then-new vocalist James LaBrie, replacing Charlie Dominici, who last performed on their debut album When Dream and Day Unite.

Written by then-keyboardist Kevin Moore, “Pull Me Under” is a song with various Shakespearean themes within, particularly in relation to the play Hamlet, as evidenced by the last line in the song. However, it’s not specifically about Hamlet, for it just shares its themes and is inspired by it. It was the last song written and recorded for the album, at the request of their A&R man.

“Pull Me Under” became, and still is, the band’s biggest commercial hit, peaking at #10 on the US Rock Chart, helping Images and Words to be certified Gold in 1995.
