The title of “Drag Rap” (widely nicknamed “Triggerman”) refers to the radio, television and motion-picture franchise, Dragnet which deals about the cases of a Los Angeles police detective. The television show started airing in the 1950s and this song samples the intro’s musical theme as well as paraphrasing its catchphrase:

Ladies and gentlemen, the story you’re about to see is true. The names have been changed to protect the innocent.

The Showboys are from Queens, New York, but this beat was widely sampled in New Orleans Bounce Music and in Hip Hop in general. It is known as the Triggerman beat. Note that “Triggerman” appears in the lyrics as a character.
