This single, a collaboration between Brandi Carlile and Sam Smith, was released on 19th October 2018. In terms of Sam Smith productions it was another unexpected surprise, given the appearance of ‘Promises’ in August, also with little notice.

Sam commented about the collaboration on his social media account
“I am so excited for everyone to have "Party Of One” in their ears and hearts. Working with @brandicarlile is truly one of the highlights of my career. Her voice and songwriting get me through the dark days. Brandi is a mentor to me and now a friend."

Brandi Carlile has commented “This is a song about deep and enduring compassion. It’s about trying to navigate domesticity, love and particularly marriage whilst being willed to fail by those that would revoke that right if they could.”

Sam has added “And I hope this raises as much support as possible to the incredible charity @Children In Conflict and its partner, @WarChildUK, of which I’m a global ambassador.

Responses have included favourable comments on the blend of the voices of the two singers. Others were supportive of the charitable causes of helping children affected by war who will benefit from the production.
