This poem or song is told from the point of view from a man (father) talking to his son who is wanting to start the next chapter in his life by proposing to his girlfriend. Worrying that he (the son) might mess it up, he goes to his father for guidance. The father tells him all the things that his son can experience if he just does the things he has stated within the song. He explains that marriage is not easy, you will go through ups and downs, arguments and kids coming into your life.. The father doesn’t want his son to worry about it too much, because in the fathers head since he has already went through this, to him “There ain’t nothin' to it”
