Getting Down The Germs

Getting Down The Germs

Gerard Way

The second single in two months, “Getting Down The Germs” followed “Baby You’re A Haunted House.” Ray Toro, Gerard Way’s former bandmate, helped produce the song as well as do bass and drums.

In an interview with Forbes, Way said:

‘Getting Down The Germs’ means getting down, or swallowing the harder things in life. But in a positive way; taking the bad with the good.

He also explained that he was hoping to write his new music with less pressure, and how too much of it affected his former band.

Me and the guys in MCR spent years in a pressure cooker of overthinking everything, which was mostly my fault. […]

I’d make myself nuts with it. I needed to stop doing that to start creating again. […] I originally wanted to just bang it out and put it out while it was still fresh, instead, I spent a year working on it. No more of that. Information out, not information in. The pure art. The pure idea. Very little to no outside opinion, which is how I wished it was for us in MCR sometimes.

The cover was drawn by Gerard’s wife, Lindsey Way.
