“Ain’t Nuthin' But a She Thing” is a Top 40 single by Salt-N-Pepa from a women’s empowerment themed compilation album of the same name. The title itself subverts Dr. Dre’s “Nuthin' But a G Thang.” for the song’s feminist theme.

Like “Independent,” a previous female empowerment anthems from Salt-N-Pepa, “Ain’t Nuthin'” was both written and produced by Cheryl “Salt” James.

The sex-positive and largely black-and-white music video shows the women of Salt-N-Pepa taking on roles traditionally filled by men (i.e. law enforcement officer, auto mechanic, firefighter, astronaut). The video closes dramatically with Pepa playing a woman in a cocktail dress successfully fighting off sexual assault in a darkened alley.
