A Minute to Pray and a Second to Die

A Minute to Pray and a Second to Die

Scarface

A great, long form storytelling song by Scarface in which he details the story of a man getting violent revenge on his enemies after being the victim of a drive-by shooting, and then ultimately being killed at the end of the song.

Scarface spoke about the track in a 2013 interview with Complex:

That title was brought to me by John Bido. The idea of the song was to write a movie, to tell a story. That song gave me my title as one of the greatest storytellers ever because [one of my first storytelling songs]. That was one of my best fucking stories.

The song samples the intro drums from Bill Withers' “Kissing My Love,” vocal samples from the intro of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” while the main beat is based around Marvin’s “Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler).”
