After the introductory tracks on the Fearless Fred Fury album, ICP delves into different vignettes about being helpless at first, but finding the resolve to step out and “fite back”. On this track, it involves Shaggy being targeted for murder, and he goes out to seek vengeance within the the titular West Vernor Avenue, a highway in southwest Detroit which ICP have mentioned previously in several songs.
The chorus interpolates the hook from Eddie Grant’s “Electric Avenue”, another song about a similar violent incident in the form of the 1981 Brixton Riot.
