Androgynous (Happy Hippie Version)

Joan Jett (Ft. Laura Jane Grace & Miley Cyrus)

On September 17, 2014, Miley Cyrus founded a non-profit organization focused on fighting injustice facing homeless youth, LGBTQ youth, and other vulnerable populations called The Happy Hippie Foundation. The group officially launched to the public on May 5, 2015 and 4 days later, Miley began releasing the Happy Hippie Presents: the Backyard Sessions videos where she gathered special musical guests to perform live.

One of the first videos in the series was “Androgynous”, a cover of the Paul Westerberg penned song for The Replacements. Cyrus' guests for this session were icon Joan Jett (who had covered the song in 2004 on her album Naked) and trans artist Laura Jane Grace. Grace’s bandmate, Atom Willard, from Against Me! is the drummer on the live session.

In 2018, the documentary Bad Reputation, about the life and career of Joan Jett, was released. This was the final song on the soundtrack album.
