Bitter Love’ by Pia Mia (@PrincessPiaMia) is about Pia exploring the heartache of a complicated yet intensely addictive relationship played over a sparkling, piano-driven melody. Pia will be featured in an upcoming movie April 12, 2019 called After, based off the young adult novel series. Pia was asked by the producers, including author Anna Todd, to send songs that would suit the movie and Pia decided to send in Bitter Love. Todd heard the song and was drawn to it. Todd thought it perfectly described the relationship of the two main characters, Hardin and Tessa, who are played by Hero Fiennes-Tiffin and Josephine Langford. Todd also thought that the track embodies the whole movie by saying, “This is Tessa and Hardin. This is perfect for the movie. It’s exactly their story.” Pia, who plays Tristan in the movie, says that she hopes fans think of After when they hear the song and that they will say ‘Damn, this is it. It’s as if the song was wrote for Hardin and Tessa.’ In reality, Pia wrote the song before she even knew about the audition; Tristan was originally a male character in the novel but was changed to a female because producers felt Pia Mia embodied Tristan. This is Pia’s first single since leaving Interscope Records in December 2017. This song was played in the final scene, leading into the end credits of the movie.
