About Work the Dancefloor

Georgia

In a similar vein as Robyn’s iconic track “Dancing on My Own,” Georgia’s “About Work the Dancefloor” serves as an ode to dancing in a club, to losing one’s self in the pulsing beats and forgetting about the struggles of romantic life. The simplicity of the title, repeated in each chorus, creates a sharp contrast with the circular and nebulous relationship Georgia wants to forget yet still finds herself involved in.

In a more metaphoric way, however, the song’s lyrics can potentially be read in such a way that Georgia’s relationship is with the dancefloor itself. In the face of its infinite nature (“You’ve got so much time to spend”), Georgia supplicates herself, indicating she has nothing of worth to offer to the dancefloor in exchange for the invaluable moments she spends with it.
