Hold Me While You Wait

Lewis Capaldi

“Hold Me While You Wait” is a piano ballad about a breakup. It is the second single from the album, following “Someone You Loved.” As Lewis puts it in his well-renowned Instagram stories, this song is about him wanting a cuddle with his girlfriend of six months after she unexpectedly tells him that she hates him. Lewis says,

Nothing a couple of hugs can’t fix.

In another statement, Lewis said,

“Hold Me While You Wait” is a song I wrote about the uncertainty of being in a relationship when your partner isn’t sure what they want. There’s an impending hopelessness to the whole thing, on both sides, when they’re not sure whether they want to be in that relationship or not. For me it’s one of the most desperate places you can find yourself in.

“Hold Me While You Wait” debuted at #4 in the UK singles chart while “Someone You Loved” was still at #1. He became the second artist to have two singles in the Top 5, the first artist to accomplish this being Ed Sheeran. The song debuted at #1 in the Irish and the Scottish singles charts.
