Y2K’s versatile production skills are exhibited in “Lalala,” which features a hypnotic guitar that resembles a South American-esque melody. This is further seen in the hook of the song, where bbno$ accompanies this with his flow.

The song was originally previewed during the Austin show of bbno$’s North American tour in late 2018, but there was no accompanying information.

bbno$ had dropped singles on 4 of the 5 Fridays preceding this track’s release (only not dropping on the 31st May 2019, possibly due to his feature dropping on Yung Gravy’s Sensational).

The release of this track happened to coincide with the date of bbno$’s graduation ceremony from the University of British Columbia.

“Lalala” was the center of a viral marketing campaign by bbno$, turning the phrase Lalala June 7th into a meme. The meme began with an Instagram story from bbno$, on which he posted solely the aforementioned phrase. Hype built up quickly, utilizing bbno$’s affiliation with Instagram meme pages (notably @analucifer and @bigbreadboys) to present it to a wider audience. The reception was unprecedented. One fan even went to the extent to write the phrase on the hood of their car, while another cracked a glass jar over his head in the name of the song’s release. bbno$ also released a short skit with Instagram page 1MinuteTalkShow to promote the song’s release.

This song features the producer Y2K, who has worked with bbno$ on his album recess, in songs such as “thankful” and “stucco.”
