Daniel Caesar strolls through pieces of his life before the fame in this song. Pharrell Williams, who provides us with consistent reminders of his love life concurrent with Daniel’s, also encourages us to speak our truths using an assuring hook.

Both Pharrell Williams and Daniel Caesar introduce us to a fresh form of juxtaposition using a mostly sanguine hook, while speaking concurrently of the brighter sides to a relationship. The juxtaposition, however, doesn’t make any appearance until we realize and understand that these thoughts are based off of fear; the same memories that Daniel brought us through during his first verse shed a dim light on his life without love, although this doesn’t only apply to life before fame.

Daniel also compares his previous life to the one that he lives currently, nearly finding humor in his position in life before he attained a celebrity lifestyle. Whereas after the fact, he can spend his money how he’d like to, and more specifically, has a more successful love life. This could also play into the “FRONTAL LOBE MUZIK” title, along with his memories of what he would’ve considered a more average life, both of which can be accessed by the frontal lobe in Daniel’s brain, as well as everybody else’s.
