Following on from their collaboration in December 2019, Bring Me The Horizon members Oliver Sykes and Jordan Fish combine their writing skills with Halsey on “Experiment on Me.” Prior to its release, Halsey said this about the track:

Hands down craziest song I’ve ever recorded. By a landslide. And rightfully so for Harley!!!!!

A section of the track’s audio was previewed on Atlantic Records' Instagram on January 16, 2020.

The song was first hinted on July 25, 2019, when Halsey posted a video on Twitter and Instagram, showing her recording vocals in studio with Bring Me The Horizon members Oliver Sykes and Jordan Fish, with the caption: “is it too crazy?”
