With its strong bassline and backing vocals, “Maybe I Will, Maybe I Won’t” carries the same retro vibe as the rest of the album. The lyrics are filled with rich and somewhat vague imagery typical of the band.

Jon Walker explained in a live performance for Last.fm how the song came about:

We were in France, we played a radio show, like some big, huge pop television radio show with Enrique Iglesias, Coldplay, um, I think J.Lo might have been there, a few other artists, and us. We were in the middle of nowhere, France, in this big arena parking lot, locked in. We couldn’t get in or out, so we were basically stuck in this parking lot for twelve hours while the show was going on. And that song, pretty much from start to finish, came out. It started because I lost my cell phone and I had no idea where I was.

The working title for this song was “7 Days.”
