Dark Horses

Dark Horses

Switchfoot

Background

Dark Horses” is the eighth track on the 2011 album, Vice Verses, and the album’s first single. At its peak position, it reached 17th on the U.S. Rock charts and 5th on the U.S. Alternative charts.

Meaning

A “dark horse” is usually a little-known contender (as a racehorse) that makes an unexpectedly good showing.

Switchfoot has hosted several benefit concert events to raise awareness and support for the charity organization, Stand Up For Kids. This organization offers aid to orphaned and homeless youth in the band’s hometown of San Diego.

The lyrics of “Dark Horses” are meant to directly capture the tenacious spirit of the youth which the band has met through this organization, while also indirectly capturing the spirit within Christians (including the band members).
