Mind Over Matter is about how the emotional aspect of sex elevates the physical act into something more. Throughout the song, the artist sings about how ‘real love’ is deeper than the physicality. It was inspired by Ramos' relationship with his Hamilton castmate-turned-fiancé Jasmine Cephas Jones. Most of the lyrics in brackets (the echoed lines) are sung by Cephas Jones in the recording.
