High Hopes

High Hopes

Pink Floyd

This song is about nostalgia, regret, and the end of things, as time runs its course. It’s the final song of Pink Floyd’s penultimate album.

It stood for 20 years as the band’s swan song (until David Gilmour and Nick Mason reunited to work on a final homage to the late Richard Wright) and sounds like it, as there are many references, both in music and lyrics, to previous Pink Floyd Songs, and ends with a recording of then Pink Floyd manager Steve O'Rourke, while “Astronomy Domine,” the first track of Pink Floyd’s debut album, opened with a recording of then Pink Floyd producer Peter Jenner.
