“When We Were 16” tells a story about a girl who (Rxseboy?) fell in love with that had family issues, but he didn’t notice what she was going through until it was too late. He explains he was too young at the time to understand that everything isn’t what it seems. The girl was going through suicidal thoughts due to the abuse her father gave her at home, but she kept her feelings hidden. With the added pain of Rxseboy “ignoring” her problems, it led to her death.

When she eventually committed suicide, (Rxseboy?) feels guilty because he didn’t do anything to stop her, and felt he could’ve helped avoid her death. He’s going through remorse and regret due to not talking to her about her problems which he didn’t know about at the time.

She tried giving him hints and clues to show that she wanted someone to lean on but (Rxseboy?) didn’t catch on. Now that she’s gone, he realizes she was trying to tell him something but he was too ignorant at the time.

Later he finds out one of the reasons she gave away her life was to be with his old self. He then blames her death on himself and her parents. He hates her mom for leaving her at home with her abusive father who didn’t even care about her or her mother.

In the end he feels it’s all his fault she died when he could’ve avoided it, and now he has to live with the burden of her death on his shoulders. If only he knew of everything, he would’ve shown his love and affection for her sooner.
