“As I Am” is about a relationship that is turning one sided and is on a continuous fade to the background of ones life. While one half is trying hard to make it work, the other half is letting go and is making no effort to let the other half know that they are leaving. Leaving the thoughts inside the lovers mind as to “Why can’t you accept me for who I am?” hence the lyrics asking for the half that is giving up to “Take me as I am”.
