Rumour has it this song was written about Ariana’s affair with Nathan Sykes from The Wanted. Her boyfriend at the time of this affair was Jai Brooks from the Janoskians.

The chemistry between Ariana and her secret forbidden lover supposedly began brewing when they created the song and filmed the music video for “Almost is Never Enough” together.

After the Manchester terrorist attacks on 22 May 2017, Ariana’s fans redefined the meaning of this song and got it back in the charts to remember the 22 fans who sadly lost their lives at her concert that night.
